Forgive Fight
In honor of Nelson Mandela’s 99th birthday, the FORGIVE/FIGHT initiative embodies the spirit of the life and history of Mandela. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years by the South African apartheid government. His crime? Standing up against a government that was committing egregious human rights abuses against black South Africans. Mandela was released from prison on February 11, 1990 and went on to lead the way for the abolition of apartheid in 1994. He was elected South Africa's first black president later that same year.
Join us on the third floor terrace of the museum by the eternal flame at 2:11 p.m. when 27 FORGIVE/FIGHT statements from Mandela: The Journey to Ubuntu will be read in honor of Mandela’s sacrifice for justice and humanity.
