Racism as the Diagnosis: Exploring Racism and Medical Trauma as Social Determinates of Health and Effective Strategies for Change is a workshop that explores the impact of racism as a social determinant of health in African American communities. Participants of this workshop will review the history of medical trauma within the African American community followed by a review of the present-day impact of racism on health disparities. This workshop will conclude with a discussion on effective strategies that can be utilized in local communities to promote healthcare equality and address medical trauma and mistrust of the healthcare system. Course participants will be able to ask questions via webinar chat during the Q&A portion of the course.
Participants are required to stay logged in for the Q&A portion of the training for successful completion, as it is part of the educational portion of this course.
Brittany is the Founder and Executive Director of Matters of Our Mind, LLC, and serves as a D&I/ anti-racism consultant for educators, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders to address structural racism, understand the impact of trauma in the workspace and community, and provide evidence-based models that promote racial healing, community empowerment. As a former prison therapist and supervisor for a community-based mental health team in metropolitan Atlanta, Brittany understands the impact of systemic racism and trauma and believes that a balanced historical perspective coupled with evidence-based practices create individuals qualified to impact change. Brittany holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Oakwood University and a Master of Social Work from Clark Atlanta University.
