Featured Panel:
CAROL WILLIAMS is an Emmy award-winning journalist who spent 37 years in TV news. Carol worked 30 of those years as an anchor and reporter at WCPO-9 On Your Side. Carol’s career highlights include interviewing President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner, and Oprah Winfrey. She has covered the Bengals’ trip to the Superbowl, the Bearcats trip to the Final Four, political conventions and the aftermath of tornadoes in the Tristate. She retired from WCPO in March 2017, and is now enjoying dinners with her husband and much earlier bedtimes. She is teaching Writing for Media at the University of Cincinnati. Carol is married to Federal Judge Michael Barrett. She is the proud mother of daughter Katherine.
Lorena Mora-Mowry is the owner and creative force behind www.MujerLatinaToday.com™ and Mora Media LLC. After eleven years of operation as a web-site, MujerLatinaToday.com™ has evolved from a blog to a social media platform that aims to connect and inform the Hispanic/Latino community, while also inspiring the community through a focus on success stories. Lorena volunteers with groups that provide leadership and support to Latinas in Ohio. In 2014, thirteen of Lorena’s interviews about domestic violence, legal remedies, victims and survivors rights, testimonials and self-esteem were compiled by the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission. The DVDs were distributed to community-based organizations, victims, witnesses and survivors throughout Ohio. Early 2016, Lorena was a media partner of “Fortaleciéndote Mujer” – “Strengthen Women in Price Hill” a community based program of Santa Maria Community Services and “Hispanic Avanzando Hispanics”. Mrs. Mora-Mowry received the 2010 Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan Award for her leadership and efforts to improve conditions for the Hispanic/Latino community. Furthermore, she was inducted in the 2010 LULAC Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame, in recognition of her outstanding leadership. Lorena received from the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati Alliance for Immigrant Women an award for her exceptional work in the community by supporting immigrant survivors of domestic violence (2012). Lorena’s volunteer work was recognized with the 2015 YWCA of Greater Cincinnati Volunteer Service Award.
MARILYN WALL is the Chair of the Miami Group Sierra Club. She is also past chair of the Ohio Chapter Sierra Club, and a past director of the national board of Sierra Club. Marilyn volunteers in areas such as transportation, climate change, water quality, and air pollution. Her major areas of work are in stopping sewer overflows and sewage backups onto private property, as well as in climate change and stopping air pollution from major industries.
MONA JENKINS is a member of the steering committee for Black Lives Matter Cincinnati. She recently received her MA from the University of Cincinnati in Educational Studies with a focus in Foundations of Education and Social Change. As a graduate researcher, Mona focused primarily on community-based issues in health, gender, and education and actively collaborated with community members to build engagement, empowerment, and community sustainable solutions. Mona currently serves as the Director of Development & Operations at the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition where she advocates for the eradication of homelessness.
