The Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau is seeking a Senior Director of Communications to lead strategic positioning, reputation management, stakeholder advocacy and media engagement. The CVB is the region’s Destination Marketing Organization and this role will be instrumental in developing and communicating our organizational strategy. The Senior Director will work to position the CVB on the key regional, national and global issues impacting our convention, travel, tourism and hospitality industry – from retaining and attracting talent to driving new investment into our visitor economy.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience and expertise in strategic, integrated communications and a proven track record of collaboration, creative problem solving, multi-channel fluency and ROI measurement. Strong writing and media engagement skills are required, as is a work history marked by transparency, inclusivity and community-mindedness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and manages annual strategic communications plan development in alignment with overall CVB sales, marketing and operational goals and objectives
Identifies the strategic issues and industry trends affecting the CVB and Cincinnati USA’s regional convention, travel and tourism market; provides ongoing positioning and advocacy support to CVB leadership and key stakeholders
Creates and manages CVB’s internal and external messaging platform, from thought leadership content to member/stakeholder communication and promotional positioning
Leads the CVB’s local and regional media engagement strategy to position the CVB as the destination marketing organization and a regional community leader, reinforcing the impact of conventions and tourism on our regional visitor economy
Positions the CVB as a thought-leading organization among its CVB peers nationally; identifies and pursues leadership positions for CVB executives within Destinations International and other industry organizations, including supervisory board appointments, speaking opportunities, etc.
Serves as the CVB’s primary media contact and connects leaders and partners with media opportunities to drive strategic positioning goals; provides CVB leadership with insight and direction on media opportunities
Creates and controls the dissemination of all external messaging for the CVB; partners effectively with communicators in the Cincinnati USA community to ensure consistency of message and create alignment around key community and economic development initiatives
Provides media support and assistance to high-profile convention groups meeting in Cincinnati, while also planning and executing the CVB media outreach surrounding large conventions
Directs and leads department’s outreach to both consumer and trade media to establish awareness and increase media coverage of Cincinnati USA as a nationally-renowned destination, including media missions, press trip coordination and collaborating with lead-generating agencies and partners
Oversees all media tracking and ROI reporting to provide quarterly updates to CVB leadership and regional advocates
Education and Experience
Minimum 15 years related experience in public relations, media engagement and/or corporate communications
Ability to demonstrate successful development and execution of strategic communications plans
Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills
Track record of professionalism, excellence and integrity
