    Job Description
    CLOSING DATE:    Open Until Filled
    CLASS SUMMARY:    
    Responsible for administering workplace employee and airport safety programs including the Airport Safety Management System for the Airport.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
    • Assists with the workplace and airport safety programs in accordance with applicable Occupational Safety & Health (OSHA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) SMS Safety standards;
    • Helps maintain the airport’s workplace safety program, working as a team member with the Senior Manager of Safety to prevent workplace incidents and accidents.
    • Works within the organizational safety structure to maintain the safety program policies/procedures and assists in program implementation;
    • Assists with the development of safety training programs and, provides informational materials; develops, conducts and monitors safety training sessions;
    • Performs technical safety inspections and consultation reviews of the workplace and advise departmental managers of actual and potential violations of occupational safety and health;
    • Attends Pre-construction meetings and helps ensure safe construction practices;
    • Follows up on safety suggestions/concerns in a timely fashion;
    • Conducts Safety Risk Assessments, manages outcomes and tracks and trends data within the Safety Management System;
    • Prepares safety procedures and plans for airport emergency planning purposes; member of the Emergency Operations Center.
    • Identifies and tracks compliance and risk reduction efforts;
    • Partners with the Human Resources Department to assist in the Workers Compensation program.
    • Conducts/reviews accident investigations/ Root Cause Analysis to identify, document, and track corrective actions as needed.
    • Management of safety related contracts per KCAB policy.
    Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, aerospace management, safety education or a related field and five years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

    LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Valid driver’s license;
    • Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance;
    • Obtain and maintain position appropriate NIMS & emergency training.
    OSHA Outreach trainer, (preferred).

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • Occupational safety principles and methods relating to accident prevention and education;
    • Root Cause Analysis Investigation and techniques;
    • Training methods, practices and resources;
    • Safety hazards and health violations associated with the operation and maintenance of construction and industrial machinery, equipment and tools;
    • State and federal safety laws and codes;
    • Familiarity with the FAA’s Safety Management System model;
    • NIMS and the Incident Command System

    SKILL IN:
    • Clearly and effectively communicating, negotiating and advocating, both orally and in writing;
    • Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, and spreadsheets;
    • Use of databases and methods to track and trend data from multiple sources;
    • Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups;
    • Demonstrated skill in analysis and evaluation;
    • Demonstrated skill in use of independent judgment;
    • Demonstrated skill in team leadership.

    ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    Positions in this class typically require: walking, talking, hearing, and seeing.
    Light Work: exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
