    Job Description

    Gateway Community and Technical College invites applications for the Director of Library & Information Services. This faculty position will provide library instruction; manage the library budget and resources, and work directly with library users, college faculty, staff and other senior academic staff members. Additionally, the Director of Library & Information Services represents the college on a system-wide peer team and Gateway’s faculty council. This role requires a comfort level in working in a non-circulating library, with a heavy focus on electronic resources and services. 


    • Oversight responsibilities for library services and resources on Boone, Edgewood, and Urban Campuses under the umbrella of an Information Commons.
    • Provide information literacy instruction sessions as requested (this is a faculty position)
    • Provide reference services to students, faculty, and staff in person, by email, by phone, or by SKYPE
    • Administration of electronic databases, renewal and management of library subscriptions, and evaluation of products for potential purchase
    • Work closely with eLearning to maintain a robust embedded librarian service
    • Routinely track, organize, and provide statistical analysis and evaluation of library services and resources
    • Solicit item requests for purchase from all academic areas in addition to selectively choosing reference items (general reference and program-specific) for each campus
    • Develop and maintain public relations for the library (services and resources)
    • Establish working relationships with faculty and staff throughout the college.
    • Represent the library on the faculty council and serve on college committees.
    • Represent Gateway on the Library Resources and Services Peer Team (KCTCS-wide team of library directors)
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
    Required Qualifications
    • Masters in Library Science or equivalent from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution
    • 1-2 years of related experience.
    • Capable of considerable independence of action.
    • Experience with electronic databases and web development as well as familiarity with emerging library technologies highly preferred.
    • Proficient in all aspects of computer operation and software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and database knowledge).
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
    • Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment. 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/her self in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
    • Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy. 

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3-5 years of related experience preferred.
    • Experience with course management systems (Blackboard), Springshare products (LibGuides, LibChat), and ALMA
    • Familiarity with copy cataloging
    • Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
    • Experience working at the community college level.

    Anticipated start date: April 2020
