    Job Description

    Status: Exempt



    Responsible for coordination and development of the strength and conditioning programs for all men’s and women’s athletic programs and assist in the development of programs for the campus community.


    • Plans and implements the operation of the Recreation Fitness and Harrington Center fitness facilities
    • Assess needs and develop strength and conditioning plans for all student-athletes.
    • Implement and supervise strength and conditioning activities for intercollegiate sports teams.
    • Assists in budget preparation
    • Management and scheduling of the Fitness Centers
    • Develop and update annually a student employee manual for the Fitness Center and Reception Desk
    • Maintains necessary records
    • Develop an annual report of facility usage by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community
    • Monitors and hires student workers for the Fitness Center  
    • Maintains a current knowledge of best and safe practices of strength and conditioning
    • Maintains current knowledge and abides by NCAA rules, policies, procedures
    • Works closely with Recreation
    • Responsible for safety of participants using the Fitness Centers
    • Maintain equipment and assist in the purchase of new equipment
    • Demonstrate experience in speed development and sports specific training techniques
    • Demonstrates integrity and upholds the values and mission of the University
    • Attends periodic staff meetings
    • Supports total athletic program
    • Committee assignments and other duties appropriate to skills and training as assigned by supervisors.
    • Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.

    Education:  Bachelor's Degree


    High school and college coaching preferred with an emphasis on strength and conditioning.

    A demonstrated ability and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Specialized Training:

    Proficient in the use of fitness equipment, coaching techniques, audiovisual, copier.  Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED.  Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Certified by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaching Association (SCCC)preferred.   Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs (can also include licenses, certificates, driver’s license, etc)

    • Willingly assists in various responsibilities as appropriate within the Athletics and Recreation Department and other areas of the University as appropriate as required during high service demand times


    • Develop and nurture an effective, productive and respectful rapport and working relationship with students, faculty and staff co-workers, and various campus and community constituencies maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills, a sense of humor, flexibility, and creativity
    • Demonstrate strong written, telephone, and electronic (email and internet) communication skills and strengths in public speaking (if applicable)
    • Communicate information clearly and concisely and listen well to others
