Laboratory Animal Medical Services (LAMS) department in the Office of Research at the University of Cincinnati, is seeking a Veterinary Technician team member to provide veterinary care for a variety of laboratory animal species; provide research support and technical services; perform treatments and technical procedures; assist with surgical procedures and provide pre- and post-operative care.
Registered Veterinary Technician certification (or within 6 months of hire) along with Associate's degree in Applied Science OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
On-Call: On-call rotation is a requirement for this position.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Subject to animal bites and diseases; exposure to animal waste, urine, feces, blood, dander (allergens), and odors; exposure to dust, hot water, and steam.
Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by the Academy of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Nurses, certification by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science as an ALAT, LAT, or LATG. Experience working with rodents; Experience working in a research setting; Experience administering and monitoring anesthesia in a variety of species; Experience working in a surgical setting with a variety of species and surgical procedures; Experience with surgical instruments/pack preparation; Experience with medication calculations and dosages.
