    Job Description
    KENTON COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD invites applications for the position of: Telecommunicator

    CLOSING DATE:    Open Until Filled

    CLASS SUMMARY:
    Responsible for receiving calls and dispatching personnel and information for both emergency and routine needs of employees and customers of the airport. Creates incident records which track police, fire and maintenance responses. Produces reports relating to airport activity and airfield closures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
    • Receives calls for police, fire, EMS and maintenance service via telephone. Receives 911 phone calls and dispatches necessary personnel requesting emergency services. Dispatches police, fire, EMS and maintenance units to the area of occurrence or utilizes alternate actions base upon procedures. Dispatches additional units for serious cases as instructed by the shift supervisor or fire captain.
    • Accepts Airport service requests and assigns work orders as needed. Receives and acts on reports of utility service interruptions, alarms, traffic signal malfunctions.
    • Monitors and sends information via teletype over the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Law Enforcement Network (LINK).
    • Maintains satellite phone which includes hospital network in case of disaster. Monitors access into secure areas via 300+ cameras on doors and gates leading to airport property. Conducts daily verifications of alarms at check points.
    • Maintains records and work order systems.
    • Sends NOTAMS to national and local groups regarding conditions of runways and airfield alerting pilots of local conditions.
    Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a United States Citizen.

    LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Pass Department of Criminal Justice Basic Telecommunications Course once employed.
    • LINK and NCIC national certifications.
    • Maintains Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance.

    SKILL IN:
    • Maintaining confidentiality, privacy and security of protected information;
    • Clearly and effectively communicating, both orally and in writing;
    • Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing, and spreadsheets;
    • Demonstrated skill in motivating, promoting and establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups;

    ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, pushing, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
    Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body
