On Saturday July 13, Welcome Dayton partnered with the Mexican Consulate for a community event at Ruskin Elementary School. The Mexican Consulate came to Dayton for this annual event that provides an opportunity for Mexican nationals to receive updated documents, identification cards or passports. While community members waited for their appointments with the Consulate, they enjoyed a resource fair and a civil rights play performed by the Welcome Dayton team and volunteers. The play depicted three scenarios in which a character's civil rights had been violated within a protected class. Special thanks to our community partners: Dayton Hispanic Chamber; Wright State University Office of Latinx, Asian and Native American Affairs; Advocates for Basic Legal Equality; Preschool Promise; Catholic Schools and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for an informative resource fair. If you have any questions about your civil rights, protected classes, or believe you or someone you know has been a victim of discrimination, please contact the Dayton Human Relations Council at (937) 333-1403.
