“A lot of people take for granted that we’re all going to hold on. The reality is that a lot of us aren’t going to make it. Help us get through February, and March. And hopefully we’re there for April.”

    – Jose Salazar, owner of SalazarMita’s, and Goose & Elder

We all have our favorite local spots. Your quintessential coffee shop that brews up the perfect cappuccino or a nearby watering hole that mixes cocktails that seem like they were crafted just for you. A friendly neighborhood bar & grill where you get the same sandwich for lunch every time you go, because it’s just what you’ve always gotten (not to mention it’s the “best sandwich in the city”). A retailer that carries clothes or décor that fit your style to a tee.

They’re businesses we love; owned and staffed by people that love us back. And they’re an essential piece in the fabric of our community. They’re also probably businesses that you assume will always be around. But right now, many of them are struggling. You might not realize it, but between the pandemic, and the winter months when the cold weather and loss of daylight makes us want to hibernate inside our homes, it’s possible that by the time spring rolls around, some of them will be gone.

    Let’s not let that happen.

    Let’s SAVE LOCAL.

Right now – not next week, not next month – we encourage you to “Save Local.” Don’t wait until it’s too late. Don’t let yourself walk down the street in April only to see a ‘Closed’ sign on the door of your favorite small business and think “I sure wish they were still around.” Support local businesses this winter, so they’re still here this spring.

Save our local businesses by shopping at your favorite retailers, dining and drinking at your favorite bars and restaurants, and visiting your favorite arts and cultural attractions. Or, if you aren’t comfortable visiting in person, save them by ordering carryout, shopping online, or purchasing gift cards. If you aren’t exactly sure what to do, we’re here to help.

This week, we kick off our campaign with some much needed “love.” Valentine’s Day is coming up, and we have plenty of options to create your ideal romantic evening, from finding the perfect gift to indulging with a fancy prix fixe meal.

Looking to dine out on Valentine’s Day? Make a reservation at Via Vite and enjoy the view of Fountain Square while dining on a special three-course, prix fixe menu. If you’d rather carry-out and dine at home, Khora, the restaurant located inside the new Kinley Hotel, is offering a dinner at home for two, with optional wine pairings. Click here to view the menu.
