In partnership with Ohio University, the World Affairs Council will host 35 English teachers from Brazil who would love to stay with you and your family for a weekend, July 26-28. The teachers will be with you all weekend and it is up to you to show them what you think is best about the region.They will be attending Ohio University to study teaching methodologies and brush up on their English. Visiting with host families is one way that the teachers will be immersed in American culture.The number of English teachers: 35Age range: 1958 to 1990 (61 to 29 years old)Gender: 6 males; 29 females.Language Proficiency: TOEFL 500 to 543About Hosting:
Hosting allows Cincinnatians to make friends from around the world, experience different and exciting cultures, as well as hearing first-hand what is happening around the world. The visitors, in turn, take a true perspective of the United States back to their native countries, in addition to fond memories of generous and hospitable Cincinnatians.Expectations and next steps:
The council looks for families willing to host one or more visitors. The hosts may be a family, a couple, or a single person. They are volunteers who are interested in meeting visitors and learning about their countries and their views, and in sharing their own perspectives and interests with the visitors.You are responsible for feeding the guests over the weekend and week. All lunches will be paid for by the council from Monday through Friday. English proficiency varies.Accommodations:
We ask that you provide each visitor with a separate bed and access to a bathroom (shared is ok).Transportation:
You will need to be able to pick them up at a TBD location in downtown Cincinnati.If this is your first-time volunteering, take the first step and complete this general volunteer application. James McManus, Director of International Programs, from our office will then contact you to do a "site visit" to your home. This is a short (20 minute) visit of your home to confirm the accommodations and to answer any questions you might have.
